Jan. 3

This recipe is in the SmartSteamer cookbook that comes with your Steamer:

1lb. Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into small chunks
2 cups broccoli florets
3/4 fontina cheese (I didn't know what this was so I grated up some cheddar!)
1/2 cup low fat milk
1/2 tsp. salt and pepper

Put potatoes in the Steamer base and place on top of the Water Tray filled to teh line with water. Place in microwave and heat on high for 5 minutes. Fill Colander (the smaller tray) with broccoli and place the Colander between the Steamer Bawse and cover. Place in teh microwave and heat on high for 12 minutes. When potatoes are soft and can be pierced with a fork, transfer all ingredients to the Mix-N-Stor Plus Pitcher and coarsely mash.

(I used a hand blender and this was SOO easy and very good. Also, it's a great way to get your vegetables in without having to actually eat whole broccoli!)

The SmartSteamer isn't just for dinners. I steamed some carrot sticks and green beans today for lunch for my 1 year old. He sees me eating raw carrots and wants some but they're too crunchy for him. Give him a whole but steamed carrot stick and he thinks he's getting what you're eating! Perfect!

Jan. 1st

We had friends over for dinner on New Years Day. On the menu was Stuffed Chicken Breasts and steamed broccoli with cheese. I didn't take a photo because I hadn't started this blog yet! Oops.

The Premise

The Tupperware SmartSteamer is a product that came out in the September 2010 catalogue and it's a one of a kind product on the market right now.

The ingenious design of the Tupperware SmartSteamer blocks microwaves from cooking foods. Instead, microwaves are directed to the Water Tray below, causing the water to boil and the steam to rise for perfectly steamed foods. The unique, two-tiered system lets you steam one or two foods at once. Several great recipes are included in the FREE recipe book.

Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to prepare food because it retains nutrients, fatty acids and vitamins while preserving color, texture and flavor. And it's also one of the most delicious, too!

So why a blog dedicated to the Tupperware SmartSteamer? For 2011, I'm going to be using the SmartSteamer at least once a day to show how useful a tool it can be in the kitchen. If I use it everyday, each use only costs 47 cents. I will post a photo here each day to show what I steamed. Follow along for ideas, recipes, and inspiration for healthier eating in 2011.
